Crusaders Victorious in Thriller over Saints

LIVONIA, Mi. - The Madonna University Volleyball team, after coming off a 1-2 record at the Taylor University tournament, opened with an explosive 3-1 win over Siena Heights University (Mich.), making their official record 6-4 with another Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Saints from Siena Heights University (Mich.) battled hard from the start of the first set. Wanting to add another win to their previous 8-2 overall record for the current season, the dominant-looking Saints team were the ones to score first. While the Crusaders continued to fight back eagerly, it would be Siena Heights who would take the lead with a 25-20 win in the first set.

Not backing down, the Crusaders put forth their best effort in the second half of the match. Even though Siena Heights would have the scoring advantage for most of the set, it was Madonna who continued to make major winning plays over the Saints. With power plays from Kira Buza, Karlee Stoll, and Kacie Stoneburner, the Crusaders would take the lead in the second set with a close 25-23 victory.

The third set came much easier for the Madonna University team. While the Saints continued to control a lot of the ball, the Crusaders gained many more opportunities to score. Ultimately, after a short battle, Madonna would be victorious again with a 25-20 win in the third.

With everyone on the edge of their seats, the fourth set continued to be extremely close for both teams the entire rest of the game. Each team went toe-to-toe, with neither the Crusaders nor the Saints gaining much of a clear advantage over the other. However, with a few slip ups on the Saints' side of the court, the Madonna University Volleyball team would take victory once again with a 25-23 win, securing another WHAC Conference win for the Crusaders.

  • Jaeda Porter and Sophia Mainhardt both put up 10 points each for the Crusaders.
