Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 4 Concordia

LIVONIA, Mich. – After defeating No. 9 LTU 14-6 on Thursday, the Madonna University men's lacrosse team took on 4th-ranked Concordia University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference battle. The visiting Cardinals escaped the Madonna Athletic Complex with an 11-9 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Madonna opened the game strong, outscoring CUAA 6-2 in the first. The Crusaders got goals from five different players in the first quarter, including two from Nick Bryden. Madonna also got goals from Dylan Hicks, Shane Alexander, Mark Vellspir, and DeMario Williams

In the second period, the Cardinals cut the deficit to just two, before Vince Floro found the back of the net with 20 seconds remaining, giving Madonna a 7-4 halftime lead. 

The Crusaders were unable to get the offense rolling in the second half, and Concordia took advantage. The Cardinals outscored Madonna 7-2 in the second half to escape with the victory and remain undefeated in WHAC play. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Alexander and Bryden each finished with two goals for Madonna.
  • Jeff Varner made 22 saves in net.
  • Kent Westrick recorded five ground balls.

Madonna hosts UM-Dearborn for Senior Day on Wednesday, April 8th. Faceoff is set for 5:00 PM.
