LIVONIA, Mich. - Despite a late push by visiting Taylor University (Ind.), the Madonna University men's lacrosse squad was able to win their third straight game with a 17-12 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was the Trojans who got on the board first over the Crusaders, scoring the first two goals of the contest. Madonna answered however with a 5-0 run, thanks to two goals by Nick Bryden and one each from Dylan Hicks, Nick Conrad, and Vince Floro. The Crusaders led 5-2 after one quarter of play. 

Taylor scored the first goal of the second quarter as well, but again Madonna answered. The Crusaders scored six goals in the second period, including two by Kyle Gudme. Bryden, Conrad, Hicks, and Floro added goals to their totals as well and gave Madonna a 12-3 halftime lead. 

The third quarter was again all Madonna, as they outscored the Trojans 4-1 and Bryden added two more goals to his total, while Shane Alexander scored his first goal of the game. The Crusaders led 16-4 heading into the final period and were able to withstand an 8-1 Trojan run in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Jeff Varner picked up the win in goal, making 11 saves in 45 minutes of action. Aiden Haver relieved Varner in the fourth quarter and made three saves. 
• Madonna outshot Taylor 67-44.
• Bryden's five goals led the Madonna offense while Shane Alexander recorded three assists. 
• Zachary Lane scored Madonna's only fourth quarter goal. 
• Blazej Cimochowski was 19-of-31 on faceoff attempts and picked up 10 ground balls.
