OSKALOOSKA, Iowa - The Madonna University men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-6 defeat to William Penn University on Saturday afternoon from Statesmen Community Stadium in Iowa. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the first half the Crusaders offense started slowly, only scoring one goal in the second quarter as the host Statesmen raced out to a 9-0 lead after one quarter. Madonna scored the first goal of the second quarter thanks to Nick Conrad, but WPU responded with three more goals to take a 12-1 halftime lead. 

The third quarter saw Madonna score twice and William Penn once. Conrad and Zachary Lane were the goal scorers for the Crusaders while the Statesmen scored their only goal of the quarter with 14 seconds remaining. 

Madonna scored the first goal of the final quarter when Nick Bryden assisted Shane Alexander. Lane later added his second goal of the day before assisting Conrad on the Crusaders final goal of the afternoon. The slow start offensively was too much to overcome, and the host Statesmen walked away with the victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
