DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Madonna University men's lacrosse team fell 10-8 to fifth-ranked Saint Ambrose University on Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Crusaders record to 2-2 overall early in the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was the Crusaders who started off quickly, jumping out to a 4-2 lead in the first quarter. Madonna scored the game's first goal when Zachary Lane found the back of the net off an assist by Nick Conrad. Later in the quarter Nick Bryden made it 2-0 Crusaders before the host Bees got one back to cut the lead in half. Madonna answered with unassisted goals by Conrad and Vince Floro, before SAU scored one more goal to close out the first quarter. 

The roles were seemingly reversed in the second period, as the Bees outscored Madonna 4-2. The Crusaders got a goal from Kyle Gudme as well as Bryden. Bryden's goal came with five seconds left in the half and tied the game at 6-6 heading into the break. 

The third period was a defensive struggle as both teams were only able to manage one goal each. Gudme found the back of the net first for the Crusaders before the Bees tied things up again. It was 7-7 heading to the fourth, where SAU outscored Madonna 3-1 to escape with the home victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Gudme's three goals led Madonna, while Nick Bryden was the other multi-goal scorer for the Crusaders with two. 
• Lane finished the day with a goal and assist for two points.
• Conrad's goal and assist gave him two points as well.  
• Jeff Varner made 19 saves in net for Madonna. 
• The Bees were led by Tyler Yetko's four goals.
