Women's Lacrosse Opens Season at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The Crusaders kicked off their season with an out of conference matchup against the Britons of Albion College. Despite a great defensive effort by the Crusaders, they were still trying to find their rhythm on offense, and would lose 13-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Facing Albion's electric offense that scored 23 points in their last game, the Crusaders defense played incredibly tough, holding them to only seven goals in the first half. Even though they were playing nearly lights-out on defense, the Crusader offense was unable to garner much in the first half, entering halftime down 7-0. Coming out of the break, the Crusaders were finally able to put together a scoring effort as Aria Gettel scored the Crusaders' first goal of the season off of an assist from LeeAnn Johnson just two minutes into the third quarter. They continued to put up points as Mia Dyson also scored the first two goals of her Madonna career in the third quarter, both off of penalty shots. Their efforts wouldn't be enough to rally a late comeback, as Albion would go on to win 13-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Dyson scored two goals and was 2-for-2 on penalty shots.
  • Gettel had one goal and four caused turnovers.
  • Johnson had one assist and one caused turnover.
  • Hannah Dickson had 13 saves as the goalkeeper.

UP NEXT

The Crusaders will venture down to Kentucky during their spring break to take on the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg on Saturday, March 4th at 2:00 pm.
