Mettie and Young Dominate in Victory over Wolverines

DEARBORN, Mich. - The Madonna University men's basketball team won their final regular season road game with a 91-74 victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mark Mettie got the scoring started for the Crusaders with an early three-pointer. It sparked an early 7-0 run before the host Wolverines scored their first points of the contest. Mettie and Madonna responded with four points and made the score 11-2 after the senior big man threw down a dunk. The Crusaders continued to overwhelm the Wolverines offensively, leading by as many as 22 points in an opening half that saw Madonna take a 48-34 lead into the locker room. Along with Mettie's 16 first half points, Brendan Young had 17 in the opening period. 

Coming out of the halftime break, Madonna scored right away thanks to a layup by Henry Speight. The Crusaders were just too much for the Wolverines, leading by as 25 points on their way to a big Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • Mettie finished with 28 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. He is now two rebounds away from breaking the all-time school record. 
  • Young posted 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds. 
  • Henry Speight recorded 14 points, while Eian Barker had nine of his own. 
  • As a team, Madonna shot 51.4 % from the field.
  • UM-Dearborn was led by Thomas Dillard IV with 21 points.
