LIVONIA, Mich. - Led by Keairra Jennings and Kayiona Willis, the Madonna University women's basketball team claimed a 72-58 WHAC victory over visiting University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday. The Crusaders are now 5-4 overall and 3-3 in WHAC play, while UNOH falls to 4-8 overall and 0-6 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Madonna got going right away offensively with a three-pointer from Willis. An opening 9-2 run in the first three and a half minutes forced UNOH to take a timeout, before the Crusaders eventually led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter. Madonna was led by Willis with 11 points and Jennings with eight points after one. 

The second quarter saw UNOH fight their way back into the contest, cutting the deficit to just five with 5:33 left in the half. But it was Madonna who closed the opening half strong with a 10-5 run to take a 40-30 halftime lead. 

In the third quarter, the offensive output slowed down, but the Crusaders remained ahead 51-43. After the Racers once again got to within five points with 7:50 remaining, Madonna went on a 15-2 run to go up by 18 points and essentially put the game away. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Jennings led the way with 23 points and three steals. 
• Willis finished with 22 points and six rebounds. 
• Ashley Kopacko added 11 points for the Crusaders. 
• UNOH was led by Alysia Lawson with 24 points.

Madonna hits the road for a non-conference showdown at Ohio Christian University. Tipoff is set for 5:00 PM Tuesday.
