LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna women's basketball program came up short against Cornerstone University 80-65 on Tuesday evening. The loss drops Madonna to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in WHAC play. The Crusaders lost their WHAC opener at Indiana Tech last Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders came out ready to battle against WHAC opponent Cornerstone Tuesday night and in the first quarter stellar play from LaZae Mosely was exactly what the Crusaders needed to try and take down the Golden Eagles. Mosley would come out hot in the first going 4-4 from the field while also grabbing 5 rebounds during her own 6 point run when the Crusaders fell 7-1 early. The first quarter would end with the Crusaders down 23-17.

Heading into the second quarter, the Crusaders and Golden Eagles continued to trade baskets with the visitors outscoring the hosts 17-16. A jumper by Paige Humerickhouse and a layup by Dekota Smith cut the deficit to just seven points and a 40-33 halftime lead for Cornerstone. 

However the Golden Eagles held steady in the second half, and forced the Crusaders to play catch up. Unfortunately time was not on Madonna's side, and Cornerstone came out on top in the end. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Mosley led Madonna with 14 points and nine rebounds. Humerickhouse also added 14 points coming off the bench. 
• Keairra Jennings posted 12 points while Smith chipped in 10. 
• Cornerstone was led by Stephanie Ainsworth's 24 points. 

UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will face Oakland University at 5:00 PM Saturday in an exhibition contest.
