GARY, Ind. - Madonna University volleyball took a break from conference play on Saturday and took on Indiana University Northwest and Spring Arbor in a tri-match. The Crusaders walked away with a split, falling to the host Redhawks 3-1 before coming back and defeating the Cougars 3-2. Madonna is now 12-8 overall.

Game 1:

The host Redhawks came out strong, winning the first set 25-23. They then held off the Crusaders in set two with a 25-21 victory.

Trailing by two sets, Madonna responded with a 25-15 set three victory. The comeback bid fell short however, as IU-Northwest took the fourth set 25-15.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Kacie Stoneburner finished the match for Madonna with 11 kills, 15 digs, and 12 assists.
Tauri Hintz recorded 10 kills for the Crusaders.
Karlee Stoll led Madonna with 25 assists, while Khloee Stoll led the team with 17 digs.

Game 2:

The first two sets between the Crusaders and Cougars were back-and-forth thrillers. Madonna came out on top in set one with a 28-26 victory. The Cougars came back in set two with a 31-29 win. In a crucial third set, the Crusaders took a 2-1 lead in the match by holding on for the 25-23 set victory.

Madonna couldn't put the Cougars away however. Spring Arbor regrouped in the fourth set with their backs against the wall and took a 25-17 victory. In the decisive fifth set, the Crusaders took a 13-10 lead and again held off the Cougars for the 15-13 set victory. Kills by Stoneburner and Karlee Stoll sealed the match for Madonna.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Kira Buza led Madonna with 15 kills, while Hope Schriber and Jaeda Porter each finished with 10.
Stoneburner had another big game with 24 assists and 22 digs.
Khloee Stoll led the Crusaders in digs once again with 30.

Madonna returns to conference play with a match against Rochester University at 7:00 PM Wednesday from Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.
