LIVONIA, Mich. - Madonna University men's soccer moved to 3-1 in league play on Wednesday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Lourdes University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

For the first 30 minutes, neither team could get an offense going. Finally in the 31st minute, Daniel Watkins sent a cross into the box that found the foot of Ren Suzuki. He fired it home past the Lourdes goalie and gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. It remained that way the rest of the half, as Madonna outshot the Gray Wolves 6-4 in the opening 45 minutes. 

A miscue by the Lourdes goalkeeper in the 64th minute allowed Madonna to add insurance. Corey Matthews scored his fourth goal of the season and made the score 2-0. The Gray Wolves made an effort to get back in the match, but could not convert on their opportunities. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• In his second game with Madonna, reigning WHAC Defensive Player of the Week Nathan Lamberti made one save in the shutout win. 
• Madonna outshot Lourdes 13-8. 
• Five yellow cards were assessed, as three went to Lourdes and two to the Crusaders. 
• Suzuki scored his first goal of the season, while Watkins added his third assist of the year. 
• Madonna is now 7-0-2 all-time against the Gray Wolves.
