Crusaders and Saints play to 1-1 draw

ADRIAN, Mich. - A goal in the second half forced a 1-1 tie between the Madonna men's soccer team and Siena Heights University on Saturday afternoon. The draw makes the Crusaders record 7-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in WHAC play. SHU is now 6-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the WHAC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Madonna scored the first goal of the game late in the first half with Yan Brun assisting Andres Gomez Rubiano for his fifth goal of the season. Despite being down 1-0, the host Saints outshot the Crusaders 7-3 in the opening 45 minutes. Nathan Lamberti made four saves in the opening half for Madonna, while Ricardo Moreno made one save for the Saints.

In the second half, the Saints continued to put pressure on the Crusaders defense. Siena Heights held an 11-8 shot advantage in the second half, and scored the equalizer in the 71st minute. Both teams tried to then find the go-ahead score, but failed to do so and settled for the draw. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Lamberti made eight saves for Madonna, while Moreno finished with four saves for SHU. 
  • Six yellow cards were handed out, with five going to the Saints. 
  • Madonna is now 34-10-7 in the all-time series against Siena Heights.

Madonna remains on the road to take on Concordia at 2:00 PM Wednesday from Cardinal Stadium in Ann Arbor.
