Crusaders Suffer Heartbreaking Loss to #RV Indiana Tech

LIVONIA, Mich. - Madonna University men's soccer dropped a heartbreaker against Indiana Tech on Wednesday. The 2-1 loss drops the Crusaders record to 10-4-3 overall and 6-2-2 in the WHAC, while the Warriors move into first place in the conference with an 8-3-5 overall mark and 7-0-3 record in WHAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A scoreless first 45 minutes saw Madonna outshot Indiana Tech 5-4. One yellow card was assessed late in the first half to Marc Junca of the Warriors, and that seemed to be all the action both sides saw.

The second half is when things began to heat up. A corner kick by Andres Gomez Rubiano found the head of Yan Brun. The ball found its way to the back of the net and Madonna had a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute. Gomez in the 75th minute had an opportunity to add insurance for the Crusaders when a handball in the box occurred, however his penalty kick went wide right off the post, and it remained 1-0.

In the 82nd minute, Brun was called for a yellow card in the box and set up a Warrior penalty kick. Luke Jones put it past Crusader goalie Nathan Lamberti and tied the game at 1-1. Four minutes later, Felipe Acherboim was given a yellow card and set up a free kick for Indiana Tech. After the ball bounced around the box, Felix Jung found the back of the net for the Warriors off an assist from Lucca Motta.

Trailing 2-1 now, Madonna needed to find the equalizer and at least salvage a tie. Indiana Tech had other ideas however, and held off the Crusaders for the victory.

  • Madonna outshot Indiana Tech 18-7.
  • Brun's goal was his fifth of the season.
