Men's Soccer ties at Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Madonna men's soccer (10-3-3, 6-1-2 WHAC) settled for a 1-1 draw at Cornerstone University (4-8-4, 2-5-2 WHAC) on Saturday night. The Crusaders are currently third in the WHAC standings entering the final week of the regular season, sitting two points behind first place Aquinas and one point behind second place Indiana Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders and Golden Eagles nearly played a scoreless first half, however Andres Gomez Rubiano changed that in the 40th minute. He scored his eighth goal of the season to put Madonna ahead 1-0 at the halftime break. Madonna played a solid first half overall by holding a 6-3 shot advantage while Nathan Lamberti made two saves for the Crusaders in the opening 45 minutes.

Madonna looked to put the game away with insurance in the second half, but failed to do so. Cornerstone was able to tie things at 1-1 in the 69th minute, and from there neither team was able to find the back of the net. Eli Leegwater scored the equalizer for the Golden Eagles.
