LIVONIA, Mich. –  After nearly six years of leading Madonna Athletics, Scott Kennell has announced that Friday, July 15 will be his last day as the Director of Athletics at Madonna University.

"Madonna is such a special place," said Kennell. "I've had the great fortune to understand this during my time here. I am forever grateful to Crusader Nation for accepting me with open arms and allowing me to lead one of the best Athletic Departments in the country. It was a difficult decision to leave, but sometimes you must decide what is best for you."

Kennell became Madonna's athletic director in July of 2016 after serving as the athletic director at Penn College from 2011-2016. After his final day here at Madonna, Kennell plans to return to Penn College to become the athletic director once again.

Kennell leaves a legacy of success by Madonna student-athletes, both on the field and in the classroom. His time here at Madonna includes multiple WHAC Championships, team and individual NAIA Tournament appearances in multiple sports, as well as the department's only two NAIA National Championships (Women's Cross Country in 2019 and Men's Track & Field in 2021).

In addition to team success, Kennell has also implemented a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which oversaw the creation of the recruitment lounge, instituted an intramural program, kick-started the Crusaders Club, added three new sports (Football, Cheerleading, and Competitive Dance), five new full-time positions (two athletic trainer positions, assistant sports information director, head golf coach, head women's basketball coach and head track and field coach) and 11 graduate assistant spots while also being instrumental in the formation of the Patrick Moore Memorial Fund. 

"I would like to say thank you to the entire Crusader community for your generosity and commitment to Madonna University," Kennell exclaimed. "I will always cherish my time spent with CRUSADER NATION!"
