Crusaders Drop a Heartbreaker, 59-54 Against LTU

Box Score LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University Women's Basketball team was back home at the ACCU Arena Saturday afternoon to take on the Blue Devils of Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) and the Crusaders lost a tough one 59-54.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders' defense was present all night and started off hot in the first. Madonna held the Blue Devils' to only four made field goals and caused five turnovers. April Hudelson, Paige Boden and Sarah Tanderys would handle the offense and tie things up 13-13 after one. 

In the second, Sarah Tanderys would know down two more threes to try to keep the game within reach, but LTU would start to pull away. The Blue Devils would shoot 50% in the quarter and would extend their lead to as much as 14. The Crusaders would go on a 7-2 run in the final minute of the half which included a Megan Aho buzzer beater to to a 35-29 deficit into the half. 

Coming out of the half, Madonna's defense was on point. The Crusaders forced LTU into 2-15 shooting in the third and cut the Blue Devil lead down to 39-38 with 26 seconds left in the quarter. However LTU would come down the court and drain a three right before the buzzer to take a 42-38 into the final 10 minutes of play. 

 In the fourth it was back and forth, Madonna was able to bring it back to only a three point deficit. However that would be the closest they would get as LTU would ice the game with free throws and the Crusaders would drop a heartbreaker, 59-54. 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
 
  • Hudelson would finish with a double-double, 17 points and 12 rebounds
  • Aho would finish with a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds
  • Tandersy would knock down four threes to finish with 14 points
  • Boden would finish with seven points and two blocks


UP NEXT

The Crusaders will be headed to Grand Rapids on Monday to take on Aquinas College, tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
