Crusaders Fall to the Trojans in a Tight Contest

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University women's basketball team fell to the Trojans of Trinity International University 65-60 on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first half consisted of a lot of back and forth runs as the Crusaders opened the game with a 6-0 run before the Trojans were able to score. The Trojans would then end the quarter on a 12-4 run and would lead the Crusaders 18-15 to end the first quarter. The Crusaders would start the second quarter just as hot as the opening quarter going on another 5-0 run with a three from Delani Robinson and a layup from JaC'ana Anderson. The Trojans would then answer again, going on a 7-0 run before the Crusaders answered with a pair of free throws from Sarah Tanderys and a three from Ti'Syn Callahan to tie the game up at 25. The Crusaders would go into the half down 29-27. 

The second half consisted of more back and forth action as both teams exchanged blows throughout the third quarter. Tanderys would go 2-3 from three scoring eight points in the quarter. Anderson would go a perfect 3-3 from the field in the third contributing six points in the quarter. The quarter would end with a three from Marcela Rodriguez putting the Crusaders up 48-44 entering the fourth quarter. The Crusaders started the fourth quarter strong going up by as much as 12 before they lost their rhythm and the Trojans would go on a 18-3 run to end the game defeating the Crusaders 65-60.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Tanderys led the Crusaders with 15 points.
  • Andersons and Robinson were the second leading scorers with 10 apiece. 
  • Caprice Augustine grabbed a team-high five rebounds while posting nine points for Madonna. 
  • Leading the Trojans was Da'Naria Washington and Saskia Stegbauer with 16 points each
