Six Different Crusaders Score in Double Figures to Beat Cornerstone

LIVONIA, Mich.  -- Madonna University's Men's Basketball team was back home at the ACCU Arena Wednesday night to take on Cornerstone University (Mich.), and Madonna secured their first victory of 2022 winning 89-84.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Eagles came out hot to start this one as they would make their first three shots to take an early 8-0 lead. Senior Mark Mettie got things going for the Crusaders as he made a three-pointer of his own. Cornerstone would finally miss their first shot of the game after making their first six and would hold a 16-8 lead after the first four minutes. The Crusaders would bounce back as they would go on a 12-3 run to take their first lead of the game 20-19.

From the 11:00 mark on it was a back and forth game, as no need saw a bigger lead than six points. With just 10 seconds left in the half, Madonna found themselves trailing 41-40, that was until a Noah Campbell floater found the bottom of the net to give the Crusaders a 42-40 lead at the break.

As the second half started, the Golden Eagles made their first couple of shots yet again and grabbed an early 47-42 lead. That was until Brendan Young and Devin Dunn took over this half. Dunn scored all 13 of his points in this half and Young had 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Thanks to their play, the Crusaders would have their largest lead of the night as they were up 85-74 with just over a minute left. Dunn and Ethan Emerzian would ice the game with free throws and the Crusaders would win this one 89-84.
