Crusaders Stay Undefeated in WHAC, Keep Win Streak Alive

LIVONIA, Mich.-- The Madonna University Volleyball team remains undefeated in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 rout of Rochester University (Mich.) on Wednesday night at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders rattled of 11 straight to start the game as Olivia Sweeney could not stop serving, helping Jodie Kelly to a big night. Jaeda Porter saw plenty of action as well, sparking off an attack that sank itself in the hardwood to create a lead the the visiting Warriors could not overcome.

In the second set, Rochester found itself with a lead over the Crusaders for most of the match with the lead as much as seven points at a few points. Madonna then was able to flicker seven-straight kills starting with Molly Miller's exclamation point that tied things back up at 15-15. DJ Sargent and Kelly along with Brigette Vanderham beat the Warriors to the race to 20, putting away Rochester for good at 25-20.

Kelly then started out the third set as Madonna led 7-2. Kacie Stoneburner and Vanderham lifted the Crusaders to the double-digit margin as it led 11-6 over Rochester. Lastly, Madonna's Porter, Stoneburner, Miller, and Kelly made quick work of the Warriors as the Crusaders cruised to it's fifth WHAC win and fifth-straight 3-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 
  • Reining WHAC Attacker of the Week, Kelly, once again eclipsed the 20 kill mark with 21 on the day
  • Stoneburner also dished out 21 assists en route to the win 
  • Madonna shot seven aces and four blocks off a total of 46 points 
  • The Crusaders now have the longest win streak in the WHAC with 13-straight, Cornerstone University (Mich.) sits behind with five

After the second set, Madonna University's Men's Track & Field team were honored for their co-national championship performance.
