Crusaders Set Standard in Road Loss

ST LOUIS, Mo..-- The Madonna University Football program saw some non-conference action on the road Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field suffering a 24-42 loss at the hands of Missouri Baptist University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders found themselves down 12-0 after one quarter behind two missed point-after-attempts by MoBap before quarterback Luke Pfromm used his legs to reach the navy blue endzone 11-yards away to cap off a eight play, 30-yard drive for the Crusaders' first offensive score of the season.

A Spartan touchdown was sandwiched between the MU defense's second pick-six of the year when Owen Aldrige picked off the MoBap pass and returned it to the house for a 24 yard return in the early stages of the third quarter.

The final Crusader points of the afternoon came behind the leg of Moritz Preuss and his 35-yard field goal in an eight play, 58-yard drive.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Pfromm is the first Madonna quarterback to throw for over 250 yards in a game going 22 of 42 for a completion percentage of 52.4% and 279 yards with a touchdown from his legs under his belt
  • Christian Gaiera gained a net rushing tally of 52 yards out of Madonna's 70 total yards on the ground
  • D'Vonta Garrett then become the first Crusader with over 100 yards receiving, catching nine balls for 116 yards for a long of 41
  • Dalen Cobb was once again the defense's leading tackler with eight (five solo, three assisted) with defensive lineman Bobby Martin just behind with seven including a half a sack shared with Julius Adams
  • Mitch Nguyen forced two fumbles to compliment Aldrige's INT
  • Preuss had the better leg on the day, hitting all three of his field goals as MoBap couldn't secure one
