Men’s Soccer blanks Cardinals behind Zaleczny’s two goals

THE BASICS

LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University men's soccer team returned to the pitch Tuesday afternoon for another Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup, with this one being played against the Cardinals of Concordia University Ann Arbor. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals had the early advantage in the match as they would take four shots in the first 17 minutes of the game, but that was the majority of what they would get for the game. 
  • Two minutes later the Crusaders would tally their first goal off of the foot of Andres Felipe Gomez as he would be able to get his first goal of the season.
  • Alexander Zaleczny would add on to the Crusader lead before the half with two goals of his own with the first being off of a rebound and the second being a breakaway goal.
  • It would not take long for the Crusaders to get goal number four after halftime as they would score just a 1:16 into the half. The goal came from Wagner Gameiro Febbe as Zaleczny would draw two defenders and make the assist to Febbe. 
  • In the 60th minute Ivan Panergo would add yet another goal for the Crusaders.
  • In the 81st minute the Crusaders would get their second opportunity for a penalty kick after Kyle Tinnion was fouled in the box. Caio Mazzo Nogueira would take the shot and be able to get the ball to the opposite side of the net than the goalie. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders would wind up also being winners in the shot column 19-7 and 6-2 in on goal shots. 
  • Between Madonna's three goalies, Robert Damron, Zach Shuk, and Jeremy Collins,  they saved all shots that they saw as they collected two saves. 
  • Twelve Blue and Gold players tallied shots on the afternoon as they were led by Issei Ito with three shots. 
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders will head back out onto the road on Friday night March 26, against the Warriors of Rochester University which begins with a 7PM kickoff.
