Crusaders remain perfect against Warriors

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University volleyball team continued its dominance of Rochester University on Saturday afternoon inside the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena with their 20th consecutive sweep over the Warriors.

The Crusaders improve to 12-4 overall and 10-4 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with the 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 victory of RU (3-10, 3-9 WHAC). 

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors hung around early in set one, leading 10-9, before the Crusaders scored 11-of-14 to take a commanding 21-12 lead highlighted by four kills from Jodie Kelly, two from Kacie Stoneburner, and one from Ryan Caste, who celebrated her 22nd birthday with the win. RU won eight of the next 10 points to cut the lead to three, but a kill from Janelle Kwasiborski and a service ace from the birthday girl sealed the win.

It was all MU in set two as the Crusaders posted 18 kills, hit .326, and limited the Warriors to nine kills and a .135 mark. The Blue and Gold used a pair of four-point rallies to pull away, including winning four of the last five. Castle again ended the second set, this time with a kill from Stoneburner. 

The Crusaders left no doubt in the third set as they cruised to a 6-1 lead, built the lead to 12, and eventually won the set 25-12 on a pair of Rochester errors. 

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Kelly led the team with 18 kills and a .357 attack percentage while Stoneburner finished with eight kills and .320 mark.
  • Castle finished with six kills, two aces and four digs on her birthday.
  • Betsy Cook led the team with 18 assists while Jordyn Dawson added 16.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
45-23- Madonna tallied 45 kills and hit .215 while Rochester had just 23 kills and hit .026.
7 - The Blue and Gold collected seven service aces to the Warriors one.
