LIVONIA, Mich. - Â The Madonna University Men's Lacrosse took down Taylor University (Ind.) as both teams opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play Friday afternoon by a score of 13-5.
The game was started with a Trojan goal just a few short minutes into the match before senior Harry Dyson answered right back with one of his own to knot things up at 1-1 a little less than five minutes into the first quarter. Juniors Cole Gingell and Ian Rush struck two quick goals in the final minute to give Madonna a 3-1 edge.Â
In the second quarter, Rush padded his second goal in less than five minutes. Dyson, sophomore Marco McMann, and junior Brendan Daschke found themselves in the scoring column in the second quarter as the Crusaders held a 7-3 lead into the half.
Both teams saw scoring stalls in the final half with Gingell, sophomore Vince Floro, Dyson, and freshman Eddie Dyla secured the second-straight win over a ranked or receiving votes opponent.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- GIngell and Dyson each tallied three goals, respectively, as Floro and Rush notched twoÂ
- Both Gingell. freshman Teddy White, and sophomore Marco McMann led the team in assists with two from each CrusaderÂ
- Senior Jeff Varner recorded 13 saves with five goals allowed for a season high .722 percentage
