LIVONIA, Mich. -  The Madonna University Women's Lacrosse team dropped a close 6-5 game at the hands of visiting, and undefeated, Ottawa University (Kan.) on Tuesday afternoon.

About 22 seconds into the game, junior Brittney Leist notched an unassisted goal to kick things off. The Braves took one of their own before freshman Lilly McKee grabbed her first goal of the season with freshman Arianna Rivera getting one in the back of the net with the numbers advantage. 

Between the first and second halves, Ottawa went on a 3-0 run with Rivera breaking up the scoring streak for her second of the game. The Braves put two more on the board in the last ten minutes of regulation as freshman Makennah Blackman started the comeback effort with 3:06 on the clock down 6-5. 

With a single free position shot left with merely two seconds and some change remaining, the Braves secured a clutch save to stave off the Crusaders' tie attempt.

• Rivera led the way with two goals on seven shots for Madonna as three others tallied one 
• The Crusaders were able to create free position attempts with 12 but only able to convert one of them
