GEORGETOWN, Ky.- The Madonna University baseball team traveled to Kentucky once again for a matchup against Georgetown University. The two teams would battle it out in the first game of the day that saw the teams play 22 innings over the two games that saw the Tigers come out victorious in both.Â
GAME 1
TURNING POINT
- Fielding error by the Madonna pitcher Danny Bullard allowed the final run of the game to score.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders took an early 3-0 lead throughout the first four innings. Adrian Reed was hit in Kyle Aniol after a triple. Reed would score on the next hit from Zachary Beadle's single up the middle.Â
- The Tigers would respond though with six straight runs scattered throughout the next three innings to go up on the Crusaders 6-3.Â
- In the top of the eighth Madonna would retake the lead as they would take advantage of a couple Georgetown errors throughout the inning, as they would score four in the inning. Gordon Ferguson, Noah More and Beadle would all walk to load up the bases with one out. Steffen Dyl would score on a hit by pitch for the first run of the inning. Alex Nicholson would bring in three on a single to right field after a fielding error by the Tiger right fielder. Madonna would be up by one at the end of the half inning.
- The lead would not last for long though as Georgetown would go on to hit a solo home run to tie the game up, which was the last of the scoring the game would see for seven innings as the Tigers would hit a walk-off squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 15th inning.Â
NUMBERS TO KNOW
- 3: The Crusaders would rack up three stolen bases in the game, and led by Jace Matkin with two.Â
- 6: The number of walks the Crusaders batters had throughout the 15 inning game.Â
- 10: Crusader pitchers would strike out 10 throughout the game.Â
TOP PERFORMERS
- Ross Rickel threw two perfect innings in which he also struck out two.Â
- Matkin would finish 2-7 with two stolen bases.Â
- Beadle ended the game 2-4 with one run batted in and two walks.Â
GAME 2
TURNING POINT
- Georgetown three-run bottom of the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders would once again strike first in the game when Moore would walk to start the inning. Dyl would come into pinch run and would wind up scoring following a couple of Tigers errors on the catcher and the right fielder.Â
- It would be all Tigers from then though as they would tie it up in the bottom half of the inning on a double from Georgetown second baseman.Â
- The Tigers would get the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as they would take advantage of a single and a Crusaders error to give them the lead in the game.Â
NUMBERS TO KNOW
- 5: Madonna would walk five times and was led by Moore with two.Â
TOP PERFORMERS
- Ryan Dusang would go five innings in the game giving up one run on two hits and tacked on four strikeouts.Â
- Matkin would tally the Crusaders run batted in the third inning.Â
- Moore was able to walk twice in the game.Â
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will look to take a game back from the Tigers as they will face off against them again today, Sunday March 14th, with a first pitch at 1 PM.Â
