THE BASICS

Score: Madonna University XX, Cleary University XX
Records: Madonna (2-2-0, 1-1-0), Cleary (0-3-1, 0-2-1)
Location: Madonna Athletic Complex, Livonia, Mich.

LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University Crusaders men's soccer team remained at home for their second straight game as they not only battled the Cougars from Cleary University but also the high winds throughout the course of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Madonna remained in control of the game and kept the ball on the offensive side of the field. In the 20th minute Matias Jaramillo Ospina got a cross from Gian Marco Bevitori and was able to get the ball past the Cougar keeper for the early 1-0 lead.
  • After another 20 minutes Ivan Panergo got a through ball from Wagner Gameiro Febbe and was able to put the Crusaders up 2-0 before the half.
  • The second half started with much of the same as the Crusaders going into the wind this time were still able to keep solid control of the ball. Ospina got his second goal of the game off a corner kick from Febbe to make it 3-0 Crusaders.
  • The Blue and Gold's final goal of the game came form Ramon Rocha after an Ali Basma cross gave him just the advantage he needed in order to hit the back of the net for the final score of 4-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders were able to once again outshoot their opponent with this time being 13-3 and 8-1 in shots on goal.
  • Cleary did not have a single corner kick throughout the entire game as Madonna led in that department 10-0.
  • The Blue and Gold keeper Robert Damron once again had a solid game in net as he posted his first career shutout and his second win on the season.
UP NEXT
  • Madonna will back out onto the road for the first half of a short two-game road trip on Sunday March 14 when they travel to Southfield for a matchup against Lawrence Tech with a kickoff at 3 PM.
