LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University women's basketball team returned home for a matchup against the Saints of Aquinas College and came out with their first home win in the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the first quarter in the first 3:41. The Crusaders followed that up with a 10-0 run of their own as the Crusaders got baskets from Josie Pergentili, Megan Aho, Sharon Woodard and April Hudelson. Hudelson and Woodard would add a basket each at the end of the quarter to give the Crusaders a 16-12 lead after the first.
- The defenses settled in, in the second as both teams were fighting back and forth throughout the quarter. Woodard would add back to back layups to start the scoring for the Crusaders. The Saints would go on a 7-2 run to bring the game within one point. Hudelson would also add back to back layups to push the lead back to five. The quarter would end with a Pergentili layup with eight seconds to make it an eight point game at the break.
- Both teams again would stiffen up their defense in order to keep it a close game after three with the Crusaders up 10. The fourth quarter saw the Saints get within six points at the 7:48 mark, but that would be the closest the game would get. The Crusaders would go 9-10 from the free throw line in the quarter, including davis going six-of-six in the final 0:32 to seal the Crusaders second win of the season.
TURNING POINT
- An early 10-0 from the 5:11 mark to 1:32 in the first quarter gave the Crusaders a lead that they wouldn't lose the rest of the game.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Woodard scored a season-high 17 points on 7-15 shooting to lead Madonna to the win.
- Hudelson was able to bring down a season-high eight rebounds and added 12 points throughout the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- 50: The Blue and Gold outrebounded the Saints by 11 total rebounds.
- 12: The Crusaders were able grab 12 steals on the day and were led by Aho with five.
- 22: Madonna's bench out scored Aquinas' bench by seven points throughout the game.

- The Blue and Gold will travel down the road to Ann Arbor for a matchup against the Cardinals of Concordia University Ann Arbor on Sunday February 7 for a 1 PM tipoff.
