LIVONIA, Mich. - Â The Madonna University Men's Basketball team extended its winning streak to four games Saturday afternoon, defeating Aquinas College (Mich.) at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena, 74-55.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The start of the contest saw both teams exchange leads early on before Madonna inflated its cushion to 10 giving the Saints the edge for only 17 seconds in the first half. Madonna was aided behind the senior powers of Noah Campbell, Henry Speight, and Stephan Umfress as Campbell was the half's top scorer at 11 points.Â
- Both teams kept it tight and found it difficult to land shots through each other's defenses before Madonna exploded to a 18-0 run at the 18:33 mark and lasted for over ten minutes to the 8:22 mark.
TURNING POINT
- Knotted up 32 at the 18:33 mark in the second half, Madonna rushed to a 18-0 run to the mid-half point.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Speight ended the night as the team's top scorer, taking over in the second half to finish with 16 points while junior Mark Mettie and sophomore Ryan Nunn followed suit with 13 of their own. The final Crusader to reach double-digit points was Campbell with 11.Â
- Mettie asserted himself off the glass with 12 rebounds, 10 of which came on the defensive end. Junior Ryan McMullen had nine of his own as well.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- 9-19: A 47.4% three-point shooting mark led by Nunn and Campbell highlighted the scoring column as Madonna shot equally as well from the field with 44.8%.Â
- 15: Madonna notched 15 points off turnovers from the 14 created. Speight and Umfress each tallied two steals.Â
- 83.33%: Aiding Madonna's effort to pull away from the Saints in the second half was the 10-12 shots hit from the free throw line for 83.33%.Â
