Noah Campbell and
Henry Speight took command on Wednesday night as the Madonna University Men's Basketball team defeated Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) 74-63 in the Don Ridler Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams exchanged leads early in the first half before a three-pointer from sophomore Ryan Nunn gave Madonna the lead at the 10:17 mark and it never looked back. The Crusaders went on a 17-0 run for the next eight minutes, taking the 10-point lead heading into halftime, 37-27.
- Madonna's lead grew to 16 points in the first two and a half minutes of the second period before Speight and Campbell took over in scoring with dashes of junior Mark Mettie and sophomore Devin Dunn mixed in solidified the win in the final stretch.
TURNING POINT
- Madonna's 17-0 run in the first half complimented by free throws and a jumper by Mettie in the last 1:48 of the match.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Campbell dominated the box score with 26 points with Speight following with 19 points of his own. Senior Stephan Umfress and Mettie rounded out the top four scoring leaders with eight and seven points, respectively.Â
- With seven rebounds was Campbell as Mettie took six boards himself. Mettie and Campbell each secured six and five defensive rebounds as well in the key road win along with Speight's three steals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- 16-19: The Crusaders shot an astounding 16 of 19 from the freethrow line for a season-high 84.2%.Speight and Mettie were perfect from the line tonight going 5-5 and 3-3, respectively.
- 25: Madonna was a force on the defensive end grabbing 25 defensive rebounds out of 33 total. 75.8% of Madonna's rebounds were on the defensive side of the court.
- 22: The Crusaders, lead by their seven takeaways, bagged 22 points off of turnovers as Madonna held its opponent to the fewest points allowed this season.Â
