Fourth quarter downs Women’s Basketball against Blue Devils

THE BASICS

Score: Madonna University 48, Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) 67

Location: Don Ridler Field House, Southfield, Mich.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -  The Madonna University women's basketball team traveled to Southfield for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday evening.   

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders defense came out strong as they were able to hold the Blue Devils offense to one made field goal through the first quarter. Sharon Woodard got the Crusaders on the board first with a jumper and a free throw at the 8:26 mark. Megan Aho would score next with three points of her own. Both teams would go back and forth throughout the quarter as Naomi Davis and April Hudelson also scored for the Crusaders. 
  • Defense would yet again be the key in the quarter for both teams. Most of the quarter would see both teams going back and forth. Madonna would end the quarter on a 10-4 run to give them a one-point lead at half. Aho had the first seven points of the run that was finished off by Boden and Pendred. 
  • The second half the Blue Devils would turn up the defensive side of the ball as they were able to 23 points to their 43. Following the third quarter the Crusaders would be down one point. Aho and Hudelson would both score eight points in the half. 
TURNING POINT
  • 28-10 fourth quarter for Lawrence Tech that gave them the 19-point lead. 
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
  • Aho once again leads the Crusaders with 20 points and eight rebounds on the evening. 
  • Boden led the Crusaders with 10 total rebounds and three blocks throughout the game.   
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • 32.8: The Crusaders shot the ball at a 32.8% clip from the floor while the Blue Devils shot the ball at 29.4%. 
  • 17: The Crusaders bench scored 17 points throughout the course of the game.  
  • 34: Madonna scored 34 of their points in the paint.

  • The Blue and Gold will return home on Saturday February 6 when the Saints of Aquinas College come to town for a 1 PM tipoff
