LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Looking for a sweep of Spalding University (Ky.), the Madonna University baseball team posted crooked numbers in three separate innings and had a four run lead with two outs in the ninth inning, but a five-run frame for the home team gave the Golden Eagles the 11-10 win at Trinity Stadium on Sunday.

TURNING POINT HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The home team scored first with a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Blue and Gold took the lead two frames later as Ferguson, Noah Moore, and Alex Garbacik each drove in a run with base hits and a Spalding error made it 4-2.
  • A Kyle Aniol RBI double in the fourth, followed by an Adrian Reed single pushed the lead to four, 6-2. The lead was cut to two in the fifth as SU added two more.
  • Jace Matkin got the runs back in the seventh with a two-run double and scored on an Alex Nicholson sac fly before the home team added two more in the eighth.
  • Evan Miller plated Cal Fournier with a double in the ninth for the 10-6 lead and MU got a pair of quick outs in the ninth before disaster. A fielding error put a runner on before a double, a walk and a single plated two. A hit-by-pitch loaded the bases and a three-run single gave the home team the walk-off win.

  • 22: Combined hits in the contest led by Madonna's 12.
  • 10: The Crusaders had 10 different players tally a hit, led by Evan Miller's 3-for-5 effort.
  • 9: The Blue and Gold had nine different players score a run, led by Garbacik's two.
