LIVONIA, Mich. -  The Madonna University Men's Basketball team secured its appearance in the Semifinal round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament after a 92-73 victory over fourth-seeded Lourdes University (Ohio) Thursday night in the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Both teams battled through the first five minutes of play, senior Henry Speight took over the game early on followed closely by sophomore Devin Dunn gave Madonna a 39-27 lead as both teams headed into the lock room.
• Devin, Mettie, and Campbell came out firing in the second half to pile on the lead, fending off runs by the Gray Wolves in the middle of the frame to hold on to the lead and to advance to the WHAC semifinals.

TURNING POINT

• The Gray Wolves attempted a strong rally in the second half before excellent jumpers by junior Mark Mettie, senior Noah Campbell, and senior Stephan Umfress inflated the Crusaders' lead to 22 with 1:02 to go in the second half.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

• Speight and Dunn each eclipsed the 20-point mark through 40 minutes as Speight scored 22 points while Dunn finished with 20 
• Mettie tallied a total of 11 boards to compliment 19 points on the night for a double-double. Campbell was the final Crusader to finish in double-digit points with 14

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• 32: The Crusaders continued a season trend, dominating the defensive side of the rebound margin with 32 defensive rebound lead by Mettie who had all 11 of his rebounds on the defensive side
• 75.7%: Madonna presses on with excellent shooting percentage at the free throw line going 28-37 for 75.7%

UP NEXT

• Madonna will play in the semifinal round at Garth Pleasant Arena on the campus of Rochester University Saturday, February 27 against the regular season WHAC champion Rochester Warriors.
