LIVONIA, Mich. -  The Madonna University women's basketball team took on the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech University for their 2020-21 senior day as the team honored Emily Pendred and Ashleigh Ringstad before the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first period was tightly contested as both teams would go back and forth with their scoring. Sharon Woodard got the scoring started for Madonna as she scored the first seven Crusader points as they would go up 7-4. The Blue Devils would battle back as they would get the score to 10-9. The Crusaders would score five of the last nine points with April Hudelson, Emily Pendred and Woodard would add points at the end of the quarter.
  • Megan Aho started the scoring in the second with back to back layups to put the Crusaders up two. During a 10-4 run by Lawrence Tech Pendred and Carrier would both hit key jumpers. Josie Piergentili, Woodard, and Aho would score five straight at the end of the quarter in order for the Crusaders to go up by one at the half.
  • The third quarter saw the Crusaders score four total points, all from the free throw line, in the third quarter as the Blue Devils would look to gain a firm lead on the game.
  • The Crusaders would not go away as they would attempt to mount a comeback throughout the final period. Woodard and Aho scored the first two buckets of the quarter to bring the Crusaders to within three. But after three straight jumpers from LTU the deficit would return to nine. The Crusaders would respond with their own 12-4 run that started with a Naomi Davis three pointer and ended with Hudelson and Woodard hitting back to back layups. The Blue Devils would be solid from the line as though they would shoot 80% for the game from the line. Woodard's attempt at the buzzer would not fall for the Crusaders.
