ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - The Madonna University women's basketball team traveled to Rochester Hills on Wednesday evening for a matchup against the one-loss Warriors from Rochester University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The start of the game was not in favor of the Crusaders as they would go down 12-4 after the first 3:32. Madonna would start to figure it out offensively as Namoi Davis and Megan Aho would score nine straight points to bring the game to within three. Both teams would hit free throws to end the quarter with the difference being two.
- Sharon Woodard would start the period with a layup to tie the game. Kennedy Carrier and Paige Boden would add a couple of jumpers after some RU free throws, to take start the juggle of the lead. Both teams would go back and forth until an 11-2 run gives the Crusaders the six point lead. The Warriors would once again tie the game up before Boden and April Hudelson would have layups to give Madonna a four-point lead at the half.
- Aho would get the scoring started for the Crusaders in the third period. But the Warriors would follow with a huge 16-6 run over the final 6:36 to take a commanding 10-point lead at the half. Josie Piergentili, Aho and Davis would add to the Crusaders scoring.
- The Crusaders would make an attempt at a comeback in the fourth quarter as Hudelson would get the scoring started for the Crusaders. Madonna would get to within six points following an and-one basket from Carrier. The Warriors though would not let that stumble them up as they would go on a 14-5 run to end the game.
TURNING POINT
- 16-6 run for the Warriors in the final 6:36 of the third quarter.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Aho would once again lead the Crusaders in scoring with 17, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
- Davis would add 11 points and four rebounds throughout the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- 26: The Crusaders bench would outscore the Warriors 26-16.
- 18: Rochester would score more points off of turnovers than Madonna by 31.
- 32.4: The Blue and Gold would shoot the ball as a 32.4% clip from the floor as opposed to Rochesters 36.1%
UP NEXT
- The Blue and Gold will come home and celebrate three seniors as they play Lawrence Tech on Saturday February 20 with a 1PM tipoff.
