CHICAGO -- Madonna University's Men's Basketball team was back in action Friday afternoon to take on Roosevelt University at the Goodman Center and lost 81-61. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Coming into today's game, senior Mark Mettie was 12 points away from 1,000 career points. In the first half, the Crusaders' big man went 5-10 from the field and knocked in two free throws to achieve that great milestone. 

The story of the first half was Roosevelt made 16 field goals which, 12 of those were threes. To compare that, in yesterday's game, St. Francis made 12 threes in the entire game.  

The Crusaders struggled in the first half, having 12 turnovers. However, a bright spot for Madonna was Ryan Nunn late in the first half. Nunn came alive at the end scoring 13 points on 4-4 shooting and 3-3 from distance. Despite Nunn's and Mettie's offensive efforts, Madonna found themselves trialing 46-33 at the break. 

In the second, the Crusaders did a much better job at defending the three, only allowing Roosevelt to go 2-16 from three this half. However, Madonna was not able to capitalize on their defensive efforts as Roosevelt outscored Madonna 35-28 in the second half and the Crusaders would fall 81-61.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 

• Mettie was able to reach 1,000 career points as he finished this game with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals
• Nunn was a huge spark in the first half and finished with 13 points and two steals
• Devin Dunn had nine points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals
• Brendan Young finished with six points, seven rebounds, three steals, and a block

The Crusaders will be back home at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena to open the new year on Wednesday, January 5 to take on Cornerstone University (Mich.) at 7:30 p.m.
