Mettie Scores 26 in Thursday Win Over St. Francis

JOLIET, Ill.-- Madonna University's Men's Basketball team was back in action Thursday afternoon after a 10-day break to take on the University of St. Francis (Ill.) at the Pat Sullivan Center and the Crusaders would come away with an 84-77 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

St. Francis was the first one to score a basket this afternoon grabbing a quick 2-0 lead 40 seconds in. However, that would be the last time the Fighting Saints would have the lead for the rest of the game. Madonna came out hot jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead in the first five minutes of action. Towards the end of the half, St. Francis would make the game a little more interesting closing the Crusaders lead to three with just under a minute left.

The first half was a team effort across the board for Madonna. Four different Crusaders had six or more points and shot 56.3% from the field. However, the Crusaders only went 1-9 from distance in the first half, and their only three was a Noah Campbell prayer from half-court that was answered. Madonna would have a slight 39-36 lead going into the break.

In the second half, the Crusaders yet again came out hot going on a 10-2 run in the first two minutes of the half. After that though it was a back and forth the rest of the way. Mark Mettie would put up 20 points in the second half for the Crusaders to win 84-77
