Crusaders Third Set Win Sparks Five Set Comeback

FORT WAYNE, Ind.-- Madonna University's Volleyball team scores a huge 28-26 third set steal Friday night at Indiana Tech to spark a five set comeback win 3-2 over the Warriors a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) clash.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In set one, Indiana Tech fueled a deflating 6-1 kill streak in the middle of the set to take the game's first point 25-20. For set two, despite Jaeda Porter and Jodie Kelly's efforts, Madonna gave up the lead early on and found the same 25-22 result in favor of Indiana Tech.

Fast forward to the third set down two sets to none and the match on the line, Madonna was up 16-12 on the Warriors with a few Indiana Tech errors and kills from Porter and Emily Stewart before the home team started biting off small points here-and-there to make things tense at 23-21 with the Crusaders still in the lead. Madonna gave Indiana Tech two points off errors sandwiched with a Warriors kill that saw Tech up by one at 24-23.

To win the set, you must win by two. Kacie Stoneburner and an attacking error floated Madonna back up at 26-25 before a desperate Warriors kill broke up set point. In the end, Molly Miller and a final attacking error from IT gave Madonna its first set of the game.

DJ Sargent came out firing along with Jodie Kelly started out what found to be a set of streaks in the fourth frame. Indiana Tech would give Madonna a scare tying things up at 19-19 later in the set before Miller and Stoneburner took care of business to win set four 25-21.

Porter and Kelly lit the fire that would ignite a 8-1 run to start the fifth set, sparking the bench and sucking the air out of the Schaefer Center as Madonna could taste the win in just a few points. Tech mounted a small comeback attempt at 13-9 before a little tricky fake set to attack by Jordyn Dawson reaffirmed Madonna's lead where a Kelly kill would give the Crusaders the win.
