LIVONIA, Mich.-- Madonna University's Women's Basketball team continued their 2021-22 campaign last night with a home contest against Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena falling 69-51. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

To start the game, both teams could not buy a basket. After four minutes the Crusaders were able to get their first points off free throws from Sharon Woodard. After eight minutes had passed, Madonna would lead 10-8 and that would be their last lead of the game. 

The turning point in the game would be the second quarter. Where the Cougars would outscore the Crusaders by a score of 24-14 to go up 37-26 at the break. 

In the third, the Crusaders would be able to pull back within eight points thanks to a couple baskets from Woodard, Megan Aho and Naomi Davis. However, the Cougars responded with a run of their own to end the period to go up 52-36. That momentum would carry over to the fourth quarter and the Crusaders eventually fell 69-51. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 

• Aho would lead the way for the Crusaders finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. 
• April Hudelson would finish the game with 14 points and eight rebounds
• Woodard had another strong outing with 12 points, three rebounds and four assists. 
• Paige Boden played well on the defensive side finishing with seven rebounds and three blocks

The Crusaders are back in action this Saturday as they take on Grace College (Ind.) with a 3:00 p.m. tip at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center in Winona Lake, Ind.
