Crusaders Volleyball Throttle Cardinals

LIVONIA, Mich.-- On Friday night, Madonna University Volleyball hung a 3-0 route of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opponent Concordia University Ann Arbor at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Things were close in the opening moments of the first set before Jodie Kelly and Kacie Stoneburner sent Madonna on a small run to build a small cushion early at 8-4. Yet another 6-2 streak by the Crusaders, sparked by Sophia Mainhardt, allowed Madonna to cruise to the 25-15 set one win.

Madonna then went on a relentless 8-1 run to start the second as Jaeda Porter, Kelly, and Stoneburner all got on the stat sheet. This same group along with Hannah Keenan then lifted the Crusaders to a 23-10 lead before Concordia came storming back at 24-12. An authoritative Stoneburner kill then solidified the second set victory at 25-17.

The Cardinals started off 2-1 in the third down two sets to none with Kelly and Porter working together from Jordyn Dawson's assists game Madonna the edge. With the game tied at 3-3, Kelly stood back to serve for a few points as a flurry of Cardinal attacking errors fed Madonna points. It was then Ryleigh Jacob's turn back at serve to continue to pile on points before Katie Engelhardt stood back for 10-straight points to hand Madonna the win and the game 25-6.
