LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University women's basketball team invited the Blue Devils from Lawrence Tech University into the MU Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. The afternoon started with senior day as the lone senior, Sydney Brown, was honored during the pregame. In a game that saw both sides playing solid defense, the Crusaders were the ones to come out victorious in the end by a final score of 61-56.

In addition to the win, the Crusaders also sweep the season series against the Blue Devils. This is the second time they have accomplished this, with the first coming back in the 2012-13 season.

The Crusaders record improves to 5-20 and 3-14 in the conference, while the Blue Devils record falls to 17-9 and 11-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game started out slow as both team's defenses were stout as the only basket in the first four minutes was from Megan Aho on a layup. The Crusaders were able to pick up the offense as they proceeded with a 13-4 run on the end of the quarter on more layups and free throws from multiple Blue and Gold players. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Aho.
  • Beginning the second quarter the Blue Devils jumped out to six straight points which forced a Madonna timeout. Coming out of the timeout the Crusaders got baskets from Aho and Brown to make it a nine-point lead. Both teams started back and forth scoring with Madonna baskets coming from Brown and Paige Boden. Aho and Brown each scored in the final minute to make it a 10 point lead at the half. Leading the Crusaders at the half was Brown.
  • Both teams came out of the locker rooms. The second half scoring started with baskets from Emily Pendred and a three from Boden. A Blue Devil 7-0 run brought the game to within six points before Brown hit a couple of free throws and a jumper. Both teams tallied eight points in the final three minutes to keep the Crusader lead at nine going into the final quarter. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Boden.
  • The final quarter started with two Crusader baskets from Brown and Victoria Guardiola. The two teams were going back and forth on three point baskets as there were five in the span of a minute with Madonna's coming from Naomi Davis and Guardiola. The Blue Devils within four with 1:50 left were mounting the comeback. But the Crusader defense held tight as they were able to hit their free throws to seal the conference win.
