ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Madonna University women's basketball team traveled to Rochester Hills for the latest matchup of the season and went up against the Warriors of Rochester University. The Crusaders overcame an early 10-0 deficit to put themselves in a position to win and even forced the game into overtime but the Warriors ended up being victorious in the end 86-84.

The Crusaders are now 5-21 and 3-15 in the conference, with two games left to play,  while the Warriors record improves to 10-16 and 7-9 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Warrior offense got going early as they went up 10-0 over the first 2:20 after a couple of three-point baskets. Naomi Davis opened the scoring for the Crusaders with a jumper and Kennedy Carrier followed up with five of the next seven points to only be down by five. The teams went back and forth as the difference was five at the end of the first. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Carrier.
  • Rochester once again opened on a run as they went on a 9-2 run before the Crusader offense was able to get going. Megan Aho hit a couple of shots and ended the quarter on a buzzer-beater putback. The difference was eight points going into the break. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Aho.
  • Both teams traded baskets in the early going before Madonna had a 10-2 run on baskets from Paige Boden, Claire LeRoux, and Aho. Sydney Brown scored six straight points to end the quarter and the deficit was five points.  Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Brown.
  • The fourth quarter saw Brown put up a total of 14 points that contributed to the late comeback and even hold a six-point lead at one point. Her and LeRoux started the quarter both with layups. The Crusaders gained their first lead of the game at the 5:02 mark on an Aho layup and were able to extend it to as much as six after a Victoria Guardiola three-point basket. Both teams went to the free-throw line in the final minutes and the Warriors tied the game on two of them with 11 seconds. Brown had a layup roll in and out at the buzzer. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Brown.
  • Neither team was able to score in the first 1:43 before the teams each traded four free throws to leave the game tied. A Davis three gave the Crusaders the lead with just under two minutes remaining. Four straight free-throws and a three-point bucket gave Rochester a four-point advantage with three seconds.
