BARBOURVILLE, Ky.- The Madonna University baseball team opened the spring season by scoring in six of nine innings in a 9-2 win over Union College (Ky.) at Jerry W. Carey Baseball Stadium at Colonel Harland Sanders Field on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams plated a pair of runs in the first inning, but Noah Moore broke the tie in the second as he delivered a two-out, three-run double. The Blue and Gold didn't allow another run as the offense didn't let up. Marcus Cipriano plated Adrian Reed in the third, Reed plated Nick Sykes in the fourth, a passed ball added another in the sixth and Reed scored in the ninth on a Kyle Aniol sacrifice fly.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
- 5: Five different Crusaders recorded a hit, led by Sykes and Reed who each had a pair while Sykes scored and drove in a run and Reed scored twice
- 9: The Crusaders allowed nine hits and struck out nine Bulldogs led by Nate Blain, who earned the win, with four Ks
TOP PERFORMERS
- Blain - allowed three hits, a walk and struck out four as he earned his second win with three innings of relief
- Moore - collected three RBI and MU's lone extra-base hit
- Gordon Ferguson - Scored twice and had two walks
- Frankie Lucska - Scored twice, walked once and went 1-for-4
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders and Bulldogs will wrap up a three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 9 with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
