BARBOURVILLE, Ky.- The Madonna University baseball team outscored Union College (Ky.) 10-6 on Sunday and won the weekend series, but split the doubleheader with a 2-1 loss in the first game and a 9-4 victory in the rubber-game at Jerry W. Carey Baseball Stadium at Colonel Harland Sanders FieldĀ
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crusaders got off to a good start as Noah Renaud led off with a single, stole second and scored on a double by Frankie Lucska, but Madonna mustered just two more hits and left four baserunners on in the 2-1 loss in seven innings. Left-handed starter Dion Henderson pitched well in his debut and didn't really face trouble until the sixth as he allowed a one-out walk which came around to score on a double to center. The Bulldogs then tallied a pair of hits off MU reliever John Beuckelaere for the go-ahead run in the sixth.Ā

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the first time all series the Bulldogs scored first as they got a run in the third, but Madonna quickly countered with two in the fourth as Lucska doubled, Noah Moore singled him home and Joey Pejuan hit a two-out, two-run home run to make it 3-1. Lucska got things going again in the sixth as he led off with another double and Nick Sykes scored his pinch-runner, Steffen Dyl, with a groundout before Alex Garbacik scored on a Bulldogs error.Ā
MU broke the game open in the seventh as Gordon Ferguson doubled home a pair of runs and Lucska drove a 3-1 pitch over the right-centerfield wall for a two-run home run and a 9-1 lead. A pair of two-out hits by Union in the bottom of the frame accounted for the final margin.Ā

- 6: Madonna pounded out six extra-base hits and starter Daniel Gore tallied six strikeouts in the win

- The Crusaders hit the road again as they travel to Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee for a two-team, four-game trip. Madonna opens on Friday, Feb. 14 against the host Phoenix at 11 a.m. before facing No. 10 Oklahoma City University at 3 p.m. Saturday the Crusaders will again face the Stars at 11 a.m. before squaring off with CU on Sunday at 11 a.m.Ā
