Hot-shooting downs @MUCrusadersWBB against Warriors

LIVONIA, Mich. – Madonna University Crusaders women's basketball team went up against the No.12 ranked Warriors from Indiana Tech University on Wednesday evening. The Warriors used their hot-shooting and points from players off of the bench to take and hold the lead throughout the night for the 84-39 win. 

The Crusaders record is now 4-20 and 2-14 in the conference, while the Warriors record improves to 21-4 and 14-1 in conference play.


HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams scored right away on their first possession. At the 8:51 mark, Paige Boden recorded her 58th block on the season which surpassed Becca Sabol for the most blocks recorded in a single-season. The two teams were tied at 6 when the Warriors went on a 14-2 run over the final 7:28 to lead 20-8 after the first period. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Sydney Brown.
  • Victoria Guardiola and Brown both started the quarter with a layup off of a Warrior turnover. IT followed up with 18-0 run which gave them a 28 point lead. Naomi Davis ended the half off of a layup. Leading the Crusaders at the half was Davis, Guardiola, and Brown. 
  • In the third quarter, the Crusaders offense was able to step it up as they were able to go back and forth with the Warriors score-for-score. Megan Aho was able to hit a couple of threes in the quarter and Brown was able to convert on her free throws. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Brown.
  • The fourth quarter saw the Warrior defense stiffen up once again to see the lead extend once again. Allie Terry was able to tally up a couple points off of free throws and a baseline drive layup. Adding in on the scoring was Brown and Claire LeRoux both scoring on layups. Leading the Crusaders in the quarter was Terry.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • 13: Brown led the team on the night with 16 points, four steals and three rebounds.
  • 25: The Crusaders finished with 25 rebounds including 10 offensive and 15 defensive rebounds, leading the Crusaders was Emily Pendred with 4 rebounds. While the Warriors recorded 52 rebounds including 13 offensive and 39 defensive and were led by Erika Foy with 11 rebounds.
  • 24: The Blue and Gold had no problem scoring in the paint as they scored 24 of their 39 points there.
MILESTONE WATCH:
  • With her block early in the first quarter, Boden has now passed Becca Sabol with the most blocks in a single season with 59.

  • The Crusader's next matchup will be against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech University on Saturday, February 8 beginning with a 1 PM tipoff. Senior Sydney Brown will be honored before the game as a part of Senior Day.
