CANTON, Mo. – The Madonna University women's lacrosse team stayed in Missouri for their second game of their Missouri trip going up against the new program Culver Stockton College. Madonna got another outstanding performance from a freshman as this time it was Madison Vliek scoring five goals. The Crusaders defense were able to nearly shutout the Wildcats in the 18-1 win

TURNING POINT
  • Seven straight Crusaders goals to start the game
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Christy Battersby scored in the first 1:12 of the game and the Crusaders never looked back as they scored twice more in the next 10 minutes on goals from Vliek and Madeleine Caswell.
  • The Crusaders then were able to rattle off from goals from Dana Haney, Taylor Vitori, Brittney Leist and a second from Battersby. 
  • The Wildcats then got on the board with their first and only goal of the game off the stick of Erin Bodine. Madonna would score once more before the half on a goal from Aria Gettel to make the score 8-1 at the half
  • Vliek started the half with a bang as she scored back-to-back goals in the first 2:50. Rivera and Caswell also added goals in the first ten minutes of the half.
  • In the final 20, the Blue and Gold were able to put up six more goals before the final buzzer from Vliek (2), Madison Kadwell (2), Leist, Battersby, and Rivera
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders dominated the shots column as they outshot the Wildcats 40-5
  • MU picked up 19 ground balls while the CSC picked up 9
  • Madonna controlled 14 draws compared to the Wildcats 3
  • Eloise Wilbur and Marissa West split time in goal. With Wilbur picking up three saves and allowing the one goal
  • Battersby and Vliek both recorded hat tricks, with Vliek scoring five on the day which is a career-high.

  • The Crusaders will travel to face off against their first ranked team of the season in No. 9 Georgetown College on Tuesday, March 3 with a 5 PM faceoff.
