JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Madonna University baseball team could do nothing wrong in the first game of the series, a 19-1 victory over Viterbo University (Wis.) at Lenz Field on Saturday afternoon, but a slow start in game two did in the Blue and Gold in an 8-6 loss.Â
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Donovan Thacker came ready to pitch as he struck out the top of the first inning. The Crusaders offense kept it up in the bottom of the first as Frankie Lucska hit a double down the left-field line and then Noah Moore and Gordon Ferguson hit back-to-back home runs for the 3-0 lead. The Crusaders wouldn't let up in the second as an Adrian Reed single scored two and a Ferguson double scored another two for the 8-0 lead. The V-Hawks got their only run of the day on a groundout to second. The third inning was the biggest inning for the Crusaders as they tacked on seven runs. Noah Renaud brought in two runs on a triple to center field, Frankie Lucska homered to centerfield and Joey Pejuan homered in two runs. The Crusaders would go on to score three more in the sixth.

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
The V-Hawks came ready to play in the second game as they battled out four runs in the top of the first against pitcher Dion Henderson. Viterbo wasn't done as after they set down the Crusaders they came back out to score three more runs. With the Crusaders up to bat Gordon Ferguson was able to hit a deep home run to left field to get the Crusaders on the board. Both teams had a couple of scoreless in a row, but Nick Sykes ended that with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth for the second Crusader run. The V-Hawks responded by scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth. The Crusaders tacked on a run in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly to deep center field. The Crusaders threatened in the bottom of the seventh with two runs but were unable to complete the full comeback.

- 9: The Crusaders struck out nine batters on the afternoon, with Case Jaworski striking out six
