LEBANON, Tenn.- It wasn't the end the Madonna University baseball team had hoped for as they dropped the final game of the weekend, 2-0, to host Cumberland University on Sunday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
A leadoff hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch allowed the home team to score first in the first and a one-out walk int he third scored on a fielder's choice for the second run. 

Madonna's best scoring chances came in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, a pair of one-out singles put two on and in the fifth the Blue and Gold loaded the bases with two out, but were unable to get the big hit they needed. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
  • 3-3: Madonna is now 3-3 all-time against the Phoenix, but are 1-3 in the last four meetings having lost the past two
  • 7: The Blue and Gold had seven base runners on the day, but just three via a hit
  • 11: Madonna struck out 11 times in the loss
  • 3: The MU pitching staff allowed only three hits, but the defense committed three errors
