Men's Basketball falls to No. 3 Wildcats in Marion

MARION, Ind.-- Madonna University Men's Basketball (0-0) took to the road on Tuesday night, falling to the No. 3 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats (4-0) 107-64 in Lucky Arena in Marion, Indiana. 

TURNING POINT:
  • Wildcats extended lead with a 10-0 run starting at 10:37 in the first half.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders stuck by IWU early on in the contest with the help of junior Mark Mettie both behind the arc and in the paint along with senior Henry Speight, who scored the first points of the 2020-21 campaign, constricted the Wildcat lead 11-11 at the first break.
  • A pair of junior Ryan McMullen scores down low in back-to-back possessions finished the half on a positive note as sophomore Devin Dunn, senior Stephan Umfress, and freshman Ozzy DeJesus accounted for the first nine points coming out of the half.
  •  Indiana Wesleyan began pulling away after halftime, securing the Crusader loss.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS:
  • Mettie topped the scoring column for Madonna with 14 points while Speight followed closely behind with 12 of his own.
  • Dunn helped thread the needle for MU accounting for three assists on the night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • 5: DeJesus commanded the backboard for the Crusaders in his debut with 5 rebounds, 2 offensive and 3 defensive.
  • 32: Madonna attacked the paint, taking 32 points in the trenches.
  • 60: Madonna started out free-throw shooting well in the first half, hitting 3-5 from the line for 60% before falling to 33.33% in the second frame.
