LIVONIA, Mich.-- Madonna University Men's Basketball senior Noah Campbell propelled the Crusaders to a 76-67 victory over the Judson University Eagles (0-1) Friday night at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.
The first game of the 2020 Bernie Holowicki Classic presented by Hampton Inn Detroit/Northville belonged to Madonna who opened the historic, first-ever home game held inside the ACCU.

TURNING POINT:
  • A 12-0 run in the first 5:22 of competition gave Madonna the buffer it needed as the Eagles made a late push deep in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Mark Mettie started off hot in the first half, scoring 15 of his 22 total points en route to the team's first double-double of the season with the addition of 12 rebounds as the final buzzer sounded.
  • Campbell and freshman Matthew MacLellan exchanged jumpers and free throws in the latter half of the first frame to put Madonna up 33-17 with 5:30 to go before Mettie continued a barrage at the rim, forcing free throw attempts.
  • The two teams went blow-for-blow to start the second half starting with senior Stephan Umfress at the free-throw line. Sophomore Ryan Nunn and Devin Dunn locked down the three-point arc with Dunn shooting 100% behind the line.
  • Judson reached within six points of the Crusaders lead with less than 1:30 on the clock before a pair of turnovers by the Eagles with both a steal and a block from Mettie secured the first-ever victory at the ACCU.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS:
  • Campbell reached a career high 22 points to lead Madonna in scoring with 29 minutes of play going 8-11 from the field and 100% (5-5) from the free throw line.
  • Mettie racked up 12 rebounds and three blocks with 22 points as well, reaching the free throw line a grand total of 16 times over the course of the contest.
  • Dunn and Nunn both tied in the assists category with three-a-piece. Dunn, however, shot 3-3 from three-point range.
