@MUCrusadersVB slides by Indiana Tech for a winning Homecoming weekend

LIVONIA, Mich.- The second game of homecoming weekend resulted in another win for the Madonna University volleyball team as they defeated  Indiana Tech 3-1 in the MU Activities Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders advance to a 14-5 record with a Wolverine Hoosier conference mark of  6-1 while Indiana Tech falls to a 12-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Set one started off slow for the Crusaders with service errors and sloppy play until a kill by Tauri Hintz allowed them to build momentum. Madonna then scored nine of the next 10 points forcing the Warriors into a timeout. The visitors responded and took the lead, but Madonna held strong and won four of the final five points, the last on a pair of kills from Tauri Hintz and Erica LaBaere to win the set 26-24.
  • It was all Warriors in the second set, as MU held only one lead, 3-2, en route to the 25-19 loss.
  • In set three the two teams competed early with five lead changes in the opening 11 points until Janelle Kwasiborski took over as she scored three of the next five points to give MU a 9-7 lead that they never let go. A late Warriors run made it close, but a Jodie Kelly kills followed by a tip by Jordyn Dawson and a block assist from Labere and Dawson sealed the win, 25-18.
  • The Crusaders came out hot in the fourth and final set with three kills from LaBaere, Kwasiborski, and Kelly. However, the Warriors gave it their all and took the lead late, 21-19. Three consecutive kills, two from Kelly and another from LaBaere, force a Warriors timeout and a pair of Indiana Tech errors followed by a kill from Kelly sealed the game with a final score of 25-23.
